Throughout the course of this blog I will
be offering a textual analysis of Pokemon (1996-Present) across space. I will
be looking at the transition of ideology, representation and culture across
various platforms that the Pokemon universe intersects with. I will also
investigating the differences of various paratexts opposed to original texts.
The culture invested in various media platforms of Pokemon has clear divides
enforced by age and nostalgic purposes opposed to the entertainment value of a
younger audience all of which I shall be investigating throughout this blog.
Whilst looking at representation I will be strongly looking at Joseph Tobins
& David Buckingham’s (2004) work on how Pokemon has been represented
differently across the globe in various platforms as opposed to the original
Japanese creation focusing on topics such as sex, violence and moral ambiguity.
Various accelerations in technology commercially and publicly available allow
for a vast range for paratexts to of emerged recently offering a great insight
into the ideology of the franchise through not just the eye of the creator but
also that of the fan turned creator, highlighting various clashes in opinions,
ideas and beliefs.
